Let us introduce you to BumbleBar’s sister, JunoBar! For those who haven’t heard of her, JunoBar is BumbleBar’s closest relative and sweetest sister. JunoBars provide a delicious date based alternative to the sesame based BumbleBar. The bars were born in 2013 under the craftsmanship of BumbleBar’s own CEO, Liz Ward. The bars combine crunchy quinoa with sweet dates to create a unique flavor. JunoBars are available in three delicious flavors: apple crisp, brownie batter, and peanut butter cookie.
Dates are sweet on the inside and the outside, and before long you’ll be sweet on dates too. Dates are leathery and caramel-y snacks that are hard to resist. This fruit was originally cultivated about 8,000 years ago in present-day Iraq. Because of their low water and high sugar content, it takes many months for them to go bad.
More and more, snack bars clutter grocery store aisles. Rainbows of different colored packaging streak the shelves with unproven health claims, false nutrition statements, and exaggerated information. Few products stand out amongst the many as being honest, ethical, and health driven. BumbleBar is proud to be one of those few.
Recently, we were contacted by Thurston County Coalition Against Trafficking. They were planning for the 5k Race Against Trafficking and were curious if BumbleBar was interested in supporting the event. Of course, we were honored to.
Here at BumbleBar, we love sesame seeds! That might seem like a no brainer but we really can’t get enough of them. Besides being a great option for a gluten free energy bar, sesame seeds are calcium-rich and help build strong bones. Sesame seeds contain three times as much calcium as an equivalent amount of milk. And studies show that sesamin, a lignan found only in sesame seeds, is a strong antioxidant that fights free radicals and helps with your cholesterol.
Last night, some of us at BumbleBar attended a local showing of the film, More Than Honey. We were blown away by some of the facts presented to us. Here at BumbleBar, we’ve been confusing vegans since 1995. Due to the bees on our packaging, it is a common misconception that BumbleBars contain honey. However, as our goal is to promote agricultural practices, the bee icon opens a dialogue about the positive benefits of farming. Not only do those cute Bumble Bees pollinate the plants that are responsible for many of our ingredients, especially almonds, but they are also the first animal affected by pesticides and herbicides.
Last night while watching More Than Honey, we learned that depending on the world region, 50% to 90% of all local bees have disappeared, and this epidemic is still spreading from beehive to beehive – all over the planet. It is a phenomenon scientists are calling “colony collapse disorder.”
While we’re very passionate about farming, we are by no means experts on the current bee epidemic. Instead, we’d like to provide you with resources to learn with us and continue this conversation.
So maybe we’re biased, but we honestly think our certified BumbleBars rock. Besides the benefits of ethically-sourced, certified gluten free ingredients that are good for the world, the pure and simple ingredients are good for you.
