There’s something really satisfying about making a recipe from start to finish using a cookbook. In this digital age, it’s easy to find how to make almost anything you can imagine online, but we love the art of the cookbook. Beyond being little nuggets of wisdom from bonafide food professionals, they’re ridiculously beautiful creations. If you’re reading this blog, you’re probably a foodie just like us and enjoy the gorgeous culinary photography and design that goes into modern cookbooks. If you’re looking for recommendations, we’ve got ‘em. Here are some of our favorites:
10 Cookbooks We Use, Love, and Recommend
Tofu Tour: Crispy Tofu and Sprouts Sandwich
For our final stop on the Tofu Tour, I decided to choose a recipe that was a little different than the other four we’ve made while exploring the different ways to prepare tofu. We’ve done nuggets, roasted veggie bowls, curry, and mini quiches, but now it’s time for something you can pack for lunch. It’s easy to make, it consists of three fresh ingredients, it comes with a crunch, and you’re going to love it. Without further ado, let’s make a crispy tofu and sprouts sandwich!
Tofu Tour: Mini Veggie Quiches
The next stop on our tour is mini tofu quiches! When choosing these recipes, my main goal has been variety. I want to show several ways one can enjoy tofu, even when one of the steps is to blend it into a purée. That’s not very appetizing to think of but bear with me because this recipe does not disappoint. I’d say these quiches are one of those recipes that you could set down in front of someone and they wouldn’t know the difference between it and the real deal.
Nutritional Yeast and Why You Should Eat It
You’ve heard of yeast. It makes bread rise and the world go ‘round, but have you heard of its rock star cousin nutritional yeast? Nutritional yeast is seriously underrated, especially considering that it does way more than just make bread fluffy. It’s nutritious, multi-purpose, and oh so delicious. Not to mention, it is likely the easiest and tastiest nutrient you could supplement to your diet.
Tofu Tour: Very Easy Vegan Curry
We’re exploring the different ways we can enjoy tofu and the next stop on the journey has a delightful kick. This was my first time making curry, and I was a little bit intimidated. I’ve heard talk of it from more sophisticated palates all my life, but I’m not entirely sure if I even really knew what it was until making it this weekend.
Curry is an all-encompassing term referencing a variety of recipes from the Indian subcontinent and South Asia. The linking factor is that all curry dishes feature a complicated mixture of herbs and spices that typically include hot chilies. There are dry curries out there, but our recipe is the saucy kind!
Tofu Tour: Vegan Roasted Veggie and Tofu Buddha Bowl
Tofu is one of those funny foods that everyone seems to say the same thing about. Usually, that thing is along the lines of, “it doesn’t really taste like anything.” While it’s true that plain tofu on its lonesome is pretty underwhelming, the same could be said about bread, and we find plenty of delicious ways to dress up and eat that. Unlike most bread, however, tofu is both a nutrient dense food and an excellent source of protein.
BumbleBar Testimony: Superstar Hiking Snacks!
The other day we received an email from a very lovely customer who wanted to share what activities she fuels with BumbleBar energy. As an avid hiker, Diana (Seattle, WA) appreciates having healthy, whole food, energy packed and portable snacks to sustain her on the trails. Below she describes a day she got through her hike on coffee, water, and a Lushus Lemon BumbleBar.
BumbleBars on Vashon Island
Back in 1995, Liz made the very first BumbleBar and pretty soon afterward, she and Glenn set up shop on Vashon Island near Seattle, producing and distributing bars. One of the stores where BumbleBars were available was a community staple called True Value. It’s since become an Ace Hardware, but current employee Katy Sassara reports that the store hasn’t lost any of its local warmth and still sells BumbleBars!
